As a member of a shop owner panel, topics included technician shortage, operational costs, technology advances and how the different areas of the industry can work together to raise the bar for the industry and consumers. An industry that can seem siloed. There was lots of input from the audience.
My takeaways were it starts with us as business owners. Being an example of professionalism each day guides us to make better business decisions to serve our team, customers, community and the industry.
It causes what I call a Ripple Effect. Customers (who are parents) see us as the professionals we are and see our industry as a viable career option for their children. Getting involved with schools and associations and the ripple effect continues, bettering the industry by changing an outdated perception.
