It’s easy as an owner to think of performance & accountability as something to measure in others. What we want in team members and how it will help our auto shop. This way of thinking may seem fine on the surface but when we dig deeper we can take action to build the environment where performance and accountability thrive.
Owners Set the Standard:
The key being performance and accountability start with the owner(s). When we are willing to grow and hold ourselves accountable for that growth, we create a culture that attracts the talent we are looking for to make the business profitable, sustainable, and enjoyable, showcasing the essential relationship between performance & accountability.
Many auto shop owners believe that if they hire top talent their business will be successful. Hiring top talent is a great step to take but make sure you have the tools and resources to retain those team members to ensure long-term performance and accountability.
Team’s performance reflects what you allow, encourage, and enforce.
Poor performance? – Have you been clear and consistent in expectations?
Mediocre performance? – Have you given team members a reason to improve?
Great performance? – Are you rewarding and retaining your best people, promoting continuous performance & accountability?
